About Maswa District Council (DC)
Maswa District Council is one of the 6 Councils that make up Simiyu Region including Itilima, Busega, Meatu, Bariadi Town and Bariadi Rural Councils. Maswa District Council was established in 1926 from Shinyanga Region and independent as a Council.
District Boundaries / District Geography
Maswa District is one of the 5 Districts that make up the new Simiyu Region. The other districts that make up Simiyu Region are Bariadi, Busega, Meatu and Itilima. To the east it borders Meatu District, North to North West it borders Itilima District, South to South West it borders Kishapu District (Shinyanga Region) and West it borders Kwimba (Mwanza Region).
District location
The District Area is 3,398 square kilometers out of which 2,475 are suitable for agricultural and pastoral activities, while 77 square kilometers is forest reserve and 846 square kilometers is rocky, hilly and forested.

Administratively, the District has 3 divisions, 36 Wards 1 City Authority with 40 suburbs, there are also 120 villages, and 510 suburbs. The Council has a total of 13 departments and 6 units.

The Chairman of the Council is the Chief Executive Officer, the District Executive Director is the Chief Executive Officer on behalf of the Local Government.

Maswa District is one of the five districts of the Simiyu Region of Tanzania Inhabited by Sukuma (Nyantuzu People). It is bordered to the north by Magu District and Itilima District, to the east by the Meatu District, to the south by the Kishapu District, and to the west by the Kwimba District. Its administrative centre is the town of Maswa.
According to the 2002 Tanzanian National Census, the population of Maswa District is 304,402. According to the 2012 Tanzania National Census, the population of Maswa District was 344,125.
The highway that connects Shinyanga Region and Mara Region (trunk road T36) passes through Maswa town.
The Central Line railway from Tabora to Mwanza passes through the district from south to north and there is one train station within the district’s boundaries at the village of Malampaka.
