About Kakamega High School
This is a national boys boarding secondary school located in Kakamega, Kenya. The school was formerly known as Government African School, Kakamega and Kakamega High School. It was established in the year 1932 by North Kavirondo District Council which was the local native council at that time, founded by Harold Arthur Waterloo Chapman. The school has since grown to be an admirable as well as sports hub.
The current principal is Gerald Arina. Notable alumni from the school include Kenneth Marende, who is the former speaker of the National Assembly of Kenya, Bonny Khalwale, who is the Member of Parliament of the Ikolomani constituency, Najib Balala, who is the Minister of tourism, Dennis Oliech, who is an international footballer, Noah Wekesa, who was the Minister for Wildlife and Forestry and Yusuf Chanzu who was th MP for Vihiga constituency. The school admits approximately 300 students each year based on academic merit and quota as per the Kenyan standard education policy. There is bias to students from public schools as required by the current education policy. The students are also admitted on a need- blind basis.
