Kagera is an administrative region in Tanzania. It is located on the western shore of Lake Victoria in the northwestern area of the country. Kagera borders Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and Kenya, which is on the other side of Lake Victoria. The region was known as West Lake before June 1979. The regional capital is the city of Bukoba.
The attempted annexation of Kagera by Uganda in 1979 triggered the Uganda–Tanzania War.
On 10 September 2016, the region was struck by a 5.9 magnitude earthquake , the strongest earthquake ever recorded in Tanzania.
Kagera is located south of the equator, between 1°00′ and 2°45′ south latitudes. Longitudinally, it is between 30°25′ and 32°40′ east of Greenwich. Out of the region’s total area of 40,838 square kilometres (15,768 sq mi), 11,885 square kilometres (4,589 sq mi) is covered by the waters of Lake Victoria, Lake Ikimba, Lake Burigi, and the Ngono and Kagera rivers. The region’s total area is just 446 square kilometers (172 sq mi) less than that of Switzerland. Kagera is Tanzania’s fifteenth-largest region and accounts for approximately 3.3 percent of Tanzania’s total land area of 885,800 square kilometres (342,000 sq mi). It has reasonably fertile old soils, but overuse in some parts of the region has led to soil exhaustion and a need to use fertiliser .[citation needed]
The regional capital Bukoba is about 1,400 kilometres (870 mi) from Dar es Salaam.
The region shares borders with Uganda to the north, Rwanda and Burundi to the west, the region of Kigoma to the south, and the region of Geita to the east. The region is known for its agriculture, its beautiful lush landscapes, and its wildlife. The Kagera River forms the region’s border with Rwanda

- Visit the official TAMISEMI website at www.tamisemi.go.tz.
- On the TAMISEMI home page, look for the ‘announcement’/”MATANGAZO” tab.
- Look for NEWS about the form five selection for 2022/2023.
- When you select the KAGERA region, the system will display the KAGERA District Councils.
- Choose the District Council where you studied and completed your secondary school.
- When you click the name of your secondary school, a list of selected pupils will appear.
- Verify your name in a comprehensive list and the school you have chosen.
How was the TAMISEMI Form Five Selection 2023 held?
Students who passed their final examinations of the Certificate of Secondary Educationa Examinations (CSEE) from Divisions one to three can choose to join Form Five if they chose to join the advanced level during the fill selform, where students could choose to join Form Five to Form Six or join with colleges based on their performance in Form Examination Results 2022, which were released by the National Examination Council of Tanzania (NECTA) in January 2022.
As a result, TAMISEMI will assign students to their preferred school, college, and mix of courses. As a student, you must be very cautious in your decisions in order to study what you want.
