About Fire and Rescue Training Centre
The Fire and Rescue Training Centre, commonly referred to as Chuo cha FIRE AND RESCUE TRAINING CENTRE, is a government college registered and accredited by NACTE , the Fire and Rescue Training Centre offers Fire and Safety Management programs
The Fire and Rescue College was established by the government in 1966 in the buildings of Mwalimu Nyerere Airport in Terminal 1 area under the Ministry of Works. Given the importance of firefighting and rescue services for the nation in 1975, the government decided to upgrade the College by incorporating joint firefighting training at Mgulani airport.
In 1982 the government decided to transfer all Fire and Rescue operations with its College to the Ministry of Home Affairs, whereas in 1985 with the support of UNDP and ICAO, the College of Fire and Rescue was transferred to DIA International Airport which is now is Mwalimu Nyerere for the purpose of providing initial training to airport firefighters.
After Act No. 3 of 1985 the responsibilities of training became national. And under the Fire and Rescue Service Act No. 14 of 2007, the Commissioner General of the Fire and Rescue Service has been authorized to develop this College.
The college is currently located in the Fire and Rescue Squadron – DSM. The college has a total of thirty-two (41) staff members of which the staff is twenty-eight (38) and the civilian staff are two (2).
